28 Ranch - A Working Cattle Ranch
The 28 Ranch is a beautiful working cattle ranch, located 20 miles south of Buffalo, Wyoming. There are three ranches that are contiguous making up 32,000 acres. There are the 28, Bolinger and Springs Ranch units. It has many great qualities including a lot of western history dating back to the late 1800’s. The original headquarters of the 28 Ranch was a part of the Johnson County Cattle War which can be explored at the Jim Gatchell Museum in downtown Buffalo.
The ranch is home to elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, prong horn antelope and ringneck pheasants. It has abundant water sources with great fisheries of trout and bass. The 28 Ranch is an outdoorsman’s dream with a wide variety of things to do.
The 28 was purchased by the Chase family in August 0f 2008 and they operate it as a working cattle and hunting/recreational property. There are 500 head of cattle that are run year around with a mountain lease that is used for two months in the summer for supplemental grazing. Fishing is good year around in the numerous ponds and the Middle Fork of the Crazy Women Creek is some of the best fly fishing in northeastern Wyoming in June-October. In the fall guests are provided a mixed bag of opportunities that any sportsman would be jealous of.
